The street punk pioneers Charged G.B.H. were founded in Birmingham in 1978. The name refers to the trial of original bassist Sean McCarthy for grievous bodily harm. The unvarnished hardcore of the EP "Leather, Bristles, Studs And Acne" paved the way for the energetic debut LP "City Baby Attacked By Rats", which landed at number two on the UK indie charts and in the top 20 of the mainstream charts when it was released in 1982, despite being released by the small independent label Clay Records. With a hint of Motörhead and Sabbat underneath their straightforward hardcore, City Baby is the beginning of the legend and shows G.B.H. in its bloodiest form.
