Who doesn't know the legendary compilations which are nowadays called "classics" which were compiled by Garry Bushell in the early 80ies? It all started with "Oi! The Album" (1980), followed by "Strength Thru Oi!" (1981), "Carry On Oi!" (1981) and "Oi! Oi! That's Yer Lot" in 1982. Most of the bands which were featured on those albums for the first time are world-famous now.
Today, 30 years after those milestones of the punk music , "Oi! Never Surrender" is the next in line of Garry Bushells compilations. You can say: the godfather of Oi! did it again! Gal Gonad, in cooperation with Contra Records, proudly presents his favourite songs of the last 3 decades of Oi! and a lot of recent upstarting bands. The "new breed" meets the old bastards - and - Oi! is not a British phenomenon anymore, it's a worldwide movement! This is what the Sampler represents: Bands from all over the world - from the backstreets of Berlin to the rehearsal rooms of Boston to the old pubs of London - Oi! ain't dead!
